Nicole Ari Parker, an American actor who has appeared in film and TV, and in stage productions, is known for portraying Teri Joseph, a fiery attorney in Showtime's Soul Food. Nikki Kodjoe became her stage name following her marriage. Since childhood, Nikki Kodjoe was a natural actor. In an Maryland competition with high school students, she won the award for the best Actress. After working in theater and with 'The Washington Ballet Company' she earned a degree in acting from 'New York University. The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love brought her a first-class role. It was followed by other films such as 'Boogie Nights Spark as well as Blue Streak. Contractor was born in Mumbai in India, was raised in Nigeria through the age of seven. She had already experienced many different travels and other cultures since a early age. After boarding school, for seven years in London, her family relocated to Toronto Canada where she lived for the majority of her childhood and early adulthood. Contractor studied classical ballet in Toronto. Additionally, she excelled academically. She studied at the Etobicoke School of the Arts in Toronto, a fine arts institution which focuses on dance and theater. At the age of 16 and after more than 10 years of dancing Contractor discovered she was looking to study acting professionally. After graduating high school, she accepted a full grant to attend the University of Toronto, where she pursued a masters in the field of theatre, and a double major in psychology and sociology. Contractor was a student who'd completed her university degree, went on to audition during an open call for Pericles in the world-renowned Stratford Shakespeare Festival, [Ontario Canada] and won the role. Her work was highly acclaimed for the 92 shows she appeared in. The play won her the 2002 award for the best production of the Year from Canadian Critics. Contractor accepted the offer to attend Stratford's Conservatory program. The Conservatory has only 8 men and four females are admitted to a course of 20 weeks in the classical theatre. Contractor got a place in the following season of productions and was offered the role as Hermia as Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream.
